Overview MacCompress requires the 128K ROMS (and hence HFS) or later. A dialog appears if the 128K ROMS are not present, and MacCompress quits. Terminology: v3.0x means any of {3.0, 3.01, 3.02, 3.03, etc}. With version 3.0x, MacCompress adds its own file format which allows compression and decompression of files while preserving file type, creator and flags. Compression and decompression of Unix "compress" files is supported in much the same way as earlier versions. The most notable change beginning with v3.03 is that file type, creator and flags ARE preserved. This is done using a 'ZIVH' resource stored in the resource fork of the compressed file; as before, the resource fork is not compressed. Thus, ALL compression/decompression operations PRESERVE file type, creator, and flags. In addition, with version 3.0x comes the ability to compress and decompress whole folder hierarchies (recursive compression).
